POSITION TITLE:                   ASSISTANT APPLICATOR

POSITION REPORTS TO:       Supervisor and Lead Applicator

PURPOSE OF POSITION:       To assist in the application of pesticides and herbicides.

 
 
 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  

1.         To help maintain all vehicles and equipment used in the Uinta County Weed & Pest District’s operation.

2.         To apply or assist in the application of pesticides and herbicides.

3.         Keeping of daily records and help co-workers in any way needed in the Uinta County Weed & Pest District’s operation.

4.         To keep the shop in a clean and orderly condition.

5.         To exercise safe work habits according to the product label.

6.         All other related tasks.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:

1.         Must be 18 years of age.

2.         Have good work habits and the ability to follow orders.

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:

1.         Will try to acquire commercial certification and training within 30 day probationary period.

2.         Must have commercial applicator license by following year if returning.

3.         District will provide most of the training.

 

SCOPE OF SUPERVISION REQUIRED IN THE POSITION:

1.         Supervises no people.

 

NEED TO EXERCISE JUDGEMENT AND MAKE DECISIONS IN THE POSITION:

1.         Use good judgment in the use of pesticides.

2.         Use good judgment in safety precautions.

 

NEED FOR INTERPERSONAL / HUMAN RELATIONS SKILLS IN THE POSITION:

1.         Exercise tact and discretion in maintaining good working relationships with co-workers.

2.         Use tact and discretion when dealing with the public.

3.         Need to be able to take and follow instructions from supervisors or lead applicators.

 

NEED FOR TECHNICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES IN THE POSITION:

1.         Must be able to read and understand product labels.

2.         Must have a current Drivers License.

3.         Must learn to calibrate equipment correctly.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS IN THE POSITION:

1.         Entails considerable exposure to chemical hazards.

2.         Employee must be fully clothed for working with pesticides and herbicides.

 

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS OF THE POSITION:

1.         Working hours directly depend on weather conditions and will vary.

2.         When not spraying, general repair, cleanup and janitorial work and all other related tasks will be done or as directed by supervisor.

3.         Need to make a practice of being to work on time on a daily basis.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Strength, stamina and dexterity to: walk on uneven surfaces, bend, climb, crouch, kneel, sit, squat, stand, stoop, twist, exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work space.  Job may require carrying a 5 gallon backpack sprayer and dragging over 100 foot of hose up steep terrains and rough topography. Perform manual tasks using power and hand tools. Perform repetitive motions including use of controls with hands and feet, climb up steps and ladders and reach to perform repair and construction tasks using tools and holding materials. Use of both legs to operate controls on equipment and vehicles, manual dexterity to use tools and operate controls on equipment to complete fine tasks. Strength to lift and carry tools, materials and parts weighing from less than five to more than 65 pounds and lift 50 pounds without assistance. Visual acuity sufficient to perform work in a variety of lighting conditions, including bright light, low light and low visibility conditions. Depth perception sufficient to make repairs and adjustments to determine position of equipment components. Ability to hear changes in operation or motors and other equipment.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

While performing the duties of this job the employee will be exposed to conditions of hazard, chemicals and chemical odors, dust, adverse weather conditions, exposure to cold, heat, mechanical hazards and electrical hazard, noise, vibration or other discomforts, ability to travel to different sites.
